Unit 3 project reflection

Felicity Sumner  WRT 105 Lyndsey Weiner  12/12/23 My Community  For my third and final project, I wanted to do something new. Given the opportunity to make a not written “text,” I came up with the idea of a “get ready with me” or a “grwm”. In this video, I take my viewers through my daily makeup routine and discuss my relationship with the community, how I have grown into my place, and my journey to get here. The makeup community for me is a version of self-expression; I wear makeup to feel confident and bold, but also because it is fun and feminine. The prompt of this final project asked for a non-written piece of text expressing this community you are a part of but also the discourse that any individual has to face when learning about and building their relationship with their community. The discourse presents itself often in the makeup community, which is the line between confidence and insecurity. Makeup is supposed to boost confidence, and while it does boost confide...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWG6apzIWAk   - This is a link to the song Stick Season by Noah Khan. In unit 2, I wrote about my Vermont community and what it meant to me. This song directly represents what it feels like to live in Vermont. The artist Noah Khan was born and raised in Vermont. As a rising artist, he would play at small venues across Vermont, but now he is an extremely popular artist performing tours all over America and having big artists featured on some of his songs. In Vermont, you will not find a single person who dislikes this song. When he came to perform in Vermont, it was amazing to see the community there come together and experience something that we are all passionate about. For me, this song reminds me of my former home and makes me feel involved in my home community, even from afar.

Unit 2 paper

Unit 2 paper In Unit 1, the class was introduced to the idea of our individual communities. I wrote about my swimming community; having been a swimmer for the past fifteen years, I consider being a swimmer part of my identity. Though I chose to write about this specific community, my identity comprises different skills that I have learned in all the other communities I indulged in in my hometown. In my hometown are my family, friends, familiarity, and larger communities that shaped my identity. Growing up in Burlington, Vermont, is a community of itself and is why I am the way I am. However, I no longer live there; my home is now Syracuse, New York. Living is also a part of my identity, meaning it is my home. The difference is that Burlington is Familiar; it has all my memories and my childhood home, and Syracuse has nothing that has shaped my identity in the past. The tension is not between my two communities but somewhat internally because it's hard to call Syracuse my home. Af...
