Unit 1 draft post

 What am I literate in?

  • The community that I have become fluent in is the swimming community

    • Starting swimming at 3-4 ( taking swim lessons )

    • Joined the summer club team at 7, only swimming in the summer

    • Starting swimming year round

    • By the time I was in 8th grade I was swimming 5 days a week in the winter and summer

What does it mean to be literate in swimming?

  • Swimming involves a lot of technique

    • 4 different strokes,Each stoke has a certain technique to be more arrow dynamic int the water

  • As you grow your technique changes

  • As I grew into the community I became more literate

What does it mean to be a part of the swimming community?

  • Swimmers have their own lingo

    • Examples …

  • Certain fashion

    • All the girls wear the same brand practice suits

    • All the older guys wear speedos

  • All share a love for swimming

First blog I picked was about swimming

  • I enjoy reading about a smaller community I am also involved in

  • This website about a bunch of blogs about swimming. Most of the blogs talk about the exhilaration that comes with racing, or how they feel after they swam. Most of the blog also talk about their history with swimming.

  • These blogs are blogs about literacy because they are all grown people who have something they are passionate about and are able to share. It makes me feel more apart of the community also because I share the connection of the love for swimming with all of those people

The second blog I picked about learning how to swim

  • Though this blog was about a grown women learning how to swim and I learned much longer I can still relate to her experience and she is still now apart of the swimming community because she put in the effort to learn the steps and the skills which means she is passionate about swimming

  • She describes the feeling of being uncomfortable while being half naked in front of a bunch of people and I know her feeling but I also at this point in my career think that is funny because how how far I have grown in this community It now feels like second nature to be in a bathing suit and cap in front of a bunch of people I may or may not know.

  • This relates back to the style part of my community.

  • She also talks about how she noticed they all had everyone came from different backgrounds and all did different things with their day but at the end of the day they were all there to learn how to swim

  • That's why I love the swimming community because it pulls people from all different places but they all have something in common, that being that they love swimming.

  3. Lissy, I really enjoyed reading this. It seems you have been deeply immersed in the swim community. I liked how you included ways you as a swimmer express yourself, like talking about the swimming lingo and the bathing suit you wear. In your final, I would draw direct comparisons between your swimming career and the blogs, expand on the lingo and bathing suits, and talk about the lessons that swimming has taught you and how it has shaped you as a person. -Jadyn
